1/2 (ハーフ Hāfu) is an anime that was written, directed, and created by Akira Jotaro who also created the anime A Little Ghost Story, Swinging!, and Yakuza Princess.
The story is set in modern Japan in a fictional island city near the city of Yokohama. The story is about a young girl who had lost her lover and sister and is now wandering the island she lives in to find a reason for her to continue living on.
Plot[]
Before he had died, Hikaru Tsumoto was a kind and helpful boy who was still in high school and also had two lovers, the Himeji Twins, Tsubaki and Himawari. On the summer day when Hikaru was supposed to decide between one the the twins after two years of dating, Hikaru was killed after he had saved a little boy from a truck on the way to meet Himawari. The night after Hikaru's funeral, both Tsubaki and Himawari were so depressed that they had began arguing with each other about Hikaru even though they promised to not fight about it before the decision. A week later, Himawari had finally decided to apologize to Tsubaki and try to make up with her but Tsubaki had caught an illness which put her in a coma; she died the next day before Himawari was able to apologize. A year has now passed since Hikaru and Tsubaki had died and Himawari is still in shock; now a third-year in high school, Himawari drops out of high school and starts to travel, looking for a reason for why she should continue living if she has nothing that she loves left.

Himawari Himeji[]
- A kind high school girl who had lost the two people she had loved most in her life. Due to the shock of their deaths, she has been depressed for over a year and has not talked to many people since. Her father had died due to an accident while fishing and her mother lad left their family when she was only four years old; because of this, she sometimes has difficulty talking to adults around her parents' ages. She often questions herself during her travels around the island and never left the island until the ending. She is voiced by Emiri Kato.

Tsubaki Himeji[]
- The twin sister of Himawari. She has the same tastes and personality as her sister. The main difference between her and her sister are their physical body traits, she has bigger breasts while her sister has a more slender figure. She had died after catching an illness from an allergic reaction and was mistreated, she died the day after. She is voiced by Emiri Kato.
Hikaru Tsumoto[]
- A boy who likes to help people. He was going out with the Himeji twins for two years but was not cheating since they were both dating him at the same time. He was killed by getting ran over by a truck on a summer day after saving a little boy. He chose Himawari over Tsubaki but had died before he could confess. He is voiced by Akira Ishida.
Shotaro Kita[]
- Himawari's second love, who she fell for after she was saved by him three times when she was trying to commit suicide. He is a smart but clumsy high school student from the other city on the island who is the same age as Himawari. He had liked Himawari but she had left the island before he was able to confess to her. He is voiced by Kenichi Suzumura.
