Ricky Owens, better known as Mr. E, is the secondary villain of the cartoon series Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, the eleventh incarnation of the Scooby-Doo franchise. He is the CEO of Destroido Corp. who seeks to obtain the Planisheric Disk in order to find the cursed treasure of Crystal Cove. In Scooby-Doo! Come Undone, he was serves as the main anti-villain, until the Evil Entity (Clancy Brown) devours him alive, which leads to his redemption and death. He is also Shaggy Rogers' counterpart/equivalent of the original Mystery Incorporated. He is voiced by Scott Menville as a teenager, who also voiced Robin in Teen Titans series and Lewis Black as an adult, who also voiced Anger in 2015 Disney Pixar film Inside Out.
Appearance[]
Mr. E is a middle-aged, obese man with long brown hair, brown beard. He wears a purple coat with a wax seal contains the letter "E" on it. Inside, Mr. E wears a T-shirt with the colors of yellow and white. He also wears black long pants and shoes. As Ricky Owens when he was still young, he wears similar clothes, but without the coat. Ricky is also notably thin, with little beard on his chin. His pose at the time was similar to that of Shaggy Roger's. Before his debut Ricky Owens never makes any appearances at all, although his existence is hinted multiple times by Dennis Raven's paternal grandfather Terence Raven.
Personality[]
When he was young, Ricky possessed a similar clumsy personality like Shaggy Rogers (Matthew Lillard), and he also views Professor Pericles (Udo Kier) as a friend similar to how Shaggy views Scooby (Frank Welker) as a friend (this is possibly another reason Simon Seville resented both Shaggy and Scooby so much).
As Mr. E, he is mysterious, dark, serious, bitter, indifferent, and emotionless. Ricky is no longer the boy he used to be, but rather a sinister, evil, wicked, and malicious mastermind who, along with Professor Pericles, commits crimes around Crystal Cove. However, even then, Ricky still shows that he is not truly evil after all, and in his final moments, he tries his best to protect the Mystery Gang, though failed and got killed in the process. It is implied that he has a romantic relationship with his fellow member Cassidy Williams. After the death of his girlfriend Cassidy Williams, Mr. E became somewhat misogynistic and hostile towards various female characters, such as Sakura Uchiha (Kate Higgins), Sarada Uchida (Cherami Leigh), Hinata Uzumaki (Stephanie Sheh), Himawari Uzumaki, Mebuki Haruno, Ino Yamanaka (Colleen O'Shaughnessey), Brittany Miller (Christina Applegate), Jeanette Miller (Anna Faris), and Eleanor Miller (Amy Poehler). Mr. E has a habit of addressing Velma Dinklley "Ms. Dinkley" and Daphne Blake "Ms. Blake". When sufficiently insulted, mocked, harassed, teased or provoked for unknown reason, he can also loses his temper.
In Scooby-Doo: Fated Retribution, during Eleanor Miller's revealed trailer, Mr. E is shown to have an antagonistic side. While he was talking to Eleanor, which he tells her to destroy three of them in vengeance for their absolute power as Eleanor made a promise to "repay his debt" when he was killed.
Character history[]
Before the events of Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated, Mr. E tries to take over the Weatherly Enterprises (formerly known as Raven Enterprises) in order to see his deceased girlfriend Angel Dynamite/Cassidy Williams by using the company's supernatural items. Mr E's original name was revealed to be Ricky Owens (Scott Menville), the equivalent of Simon Seville's former arch-rival Shaggy Rogers in the original Mystery Inc. and when he is still a young child, Ricky met Professor Pericles who was injured due to crashing into a tree in his front yard, and nursed Pericles back to health, however the parrot returned and decided to be his permanent friend. Together, they founded the original Mystery Incorporated, along with Cassidy Williams (Kimberly Brooks), Bradley Chiles (Nolan North) and Judy Reeves (Kari Wahlgren). During a hunt for secrets in Crystal Cove, Pericles was corrupted by the presence of the Evil Entity and betrayed his gang, along with Mayor Frederick Jones, Sr. (Gary Cole), who forced them to leave the town forever. Ricky disappeared and vanished for many years after this.
Season 1[]
Now posing as a mysterious man called Mr E., Ricky employs the new Mystery Incorporated on several occasions throughout season 1. Notably, he called K-Ghoul and said that they shouldn't had brought back the locket that Daphne Blake (Grey DeLisle) found in the sewers and that the real mystery had just begun, and scolded Velma Dinkley (Mindy Cohn) for double crossing him and kicking Marcie Fleach (Linda Cardellini) out of the group, but she hung up on him before he could finish. Mr. E also ordered the new gang to release the imprisoned Professor Pericles. Towards the end of season 1, Mr. E is revealed to be none other than Ricky Owens, and the true mystery of what happened to the original Mystery Inc. in the past was finally revealed as well.
Season 2[]
Eventually Ricky was summoned to a meeting by Professor Pericles, along with the other original Mystery Inc. members. Cassidy (Vivica A. Fox), Bradley (Timothy Matheson), and Judy (Tia Carrere) consequently turned down Pericles, but Mr. E rejoined forces with former best friends, and plotted with him to destroy Cassidy once and for all, who began leaving cryptic messages about all of their wrong doings from her radio station. As time went on, Pericles, Bradley, and Judy had turned against Ricky and, to makes matters worse, Pericles implanted a mutant cobra larvae in his spinal column in his sleep, which put him back under Pericles' control.
Mr. E continued to grow to hate and dislike Pericles so much, as he watched the parrot's villainous methods getting crueler and crueler, so he tried once again to stop the latter, when Pericles told him to make sure the robots killed and slaughtered everybody they had kidnapped and captured for slave labor once they had no more use for them. Despite this, Pericles still managed to force him to continue doing his bidding. Finally after the Evil Entity was released and possessed Pericles and consumed Bradley and Judy, Ricky was all that was left. He managed to save Mystery Incorporated from the Evil Entity, but was devoured alive by the Evil Entity. However, in the new timeline created by destroying the Entity and therefore undoing the effects of it's influence, Ricky is seen as being handsome and in good shape, as well as happily married to Cassidy Williams, friends with Pericles again, and the CEO of Creationex Corp rather than Destroido Corp.
Augustus Raven Saga[]
In Augustus Raven Saga episode "The Man in Green", he is later shown using alchemy to fix the flower vase that Professor Pericles broke. The aging Augustus Raven however, selfishly performs a body switch with Mr. E by using the magic from the fountain of youth soon afterwards, then proceeds to kill him so that his secret would remain hidden.
Throughout the later half of the saga, Mr. E's appearance (albeit possessed by Augustus Raven becomes the face of the central villain.
