Sekirei (Seitenkan) is the genderbent adaptation of Sakurako Gokurakuin's magna.

Characters

Minako Sasashi (Yoko Hikasa (Japanese); Amber Lee Connors (English)): A high school graduate who had failed the college entrance exams twice. Minako's known family consists of: her mother Takami, her grandmother (whom Minato's mother stated could live another 100 years) and her younger sister Yukinari. After meeting Musou at the start of the series, she becomes an Ashikabi. Over the course of the story, she "wings" several Sekirei and they share a residence in Izumo Inn where she has her own room. Originally she has a passive and somewhat cowardly personality, but over time, due to the kindness, trust and love of her Sekirei and her desire to protect them, she becomes more confident. She often places herself in danger to protect hers Sekirei from harm and avoids situations that pose a high risk of danger to prevent her Sekirei from fighting needlessly. Although many of her Ashikabi peers consider these actions cowardly, Minako finds that these traits endear her Sekirei to her even more. It is later revealed that Hiroto Minaka, MBI's director and CEO, is Minato's father.

Minako has "winged" six Sekirei, each of whom physically reacted to her prior to winging, with the first five choosing he as their Ashikabi. Musou, Kiyoshi and Matsuri were winged in the game's "First Stage", and Tsukune, Kazeharu and Kagari were winged in the "Second Stage", earning her recognition as the strongest Ashikabi in the northern part of the city. Because of this (and as a result of her living at the "Northern Hannya"'s location and therefore being seen as "allied" with him), she received the title "Northern Ashikabi", with few using her given name as a result of Minako being falsely described as an Ashikabi with a "shady" background. Many individuals think that Minako is somehow the key to foiling MBI's ultimate plans for the Sekirei. By the end of the Third Stage, Minako is seen with some advantages against the other remaining contestants as she is the only Ashikabi with two Jinki in her possession, one having been stolen by Matsuri and the other won in battle, and for having winged the most single-numbered Sekirei, totaling four (not including Musou who inherited the powers of Yugo, another single number), while receiving guidance from Matsuri and Miyu (who, despite not participating in the Sekirei Fight, is known as the strongest Sekirei of all). During the final stage, Minako is the Ashikabi representing them in the final match on Kouten to save all Sekirei and their Ashikabi. She and Musou journey to Kouten to fight Miyu for the prize; the rest of her Sekirei join their life-forces with Musou, enabling Musou to defeat Miyu. After the final battle, Musou becomes the new Guardian of Kouten and Minako must return without him. In the year that follows, Minako finally passes the entrance examination to the university, has a part-time job at MBI (now run by his mother Takami in Minaka's absence) and is determined to learn as much about Sekirei as she can in order to "destroy this system binding these Sekirei and remove the leash on these boys." In Sekirei - 365 Days Without Him, she states her intention to finish college in possibly two years and one day "take over MBI". She continues to live at Izumo Inn with her other Sekirei, finally reuniting with Musou. In Sekirei - 365 Days Without Him's epilogue, which takes place a few years after Musou's return, she has become the new Director of "the New Sekirei Project" at MBI and is responsible for Takehito Asama's revival and reunion with Miyu.

Musou (Miyu Irino (Japanese); Robbie Daymond (English)): The main hero of the series. He met Minato when he literally fell out of the sky onto him while being chased by Hikaru and Hibaku. Musou specializes in hand-to-hand combat which utilizes his greatly enhanced strength, enforced by the heavy combat gloves he always wears. Musubi's outfit consists of red shorts and upper clothing resembling the robe traditionally worn by Shinto priests (possibly passed on to him from Yugo). He is quite naïve, often saying things he doesn't understand and is the most "childish" of Minako's Sekirei (even more so than Kiyoshi), yet at times can be insightful. Musou is the most "competitive" of Minako's Sekirei, often showing great eagerness to fight other Sekirei, but never fails to be polite, usually introducing himself and then asking for permission first before fighting them. Two running gags in the story are how his clothing always ends up in tatters, revealing his bulky abs after every fight, and how he seems unable to land on his feet after leaping from a great height but always crash-lands on top of Minako. After hearing Tsukune say that Minato is his wife, he decides that she is his wife too. He eats a lot and is a fairly decent cook (but only curry in large amounts). Because Musou eats so much food to maintain his energy level, Miyu's nickname for Musou is "Airheaded Glutton". During moments of extreme emotion (such as anger or jealousy), the image of a ferocious black bear appears behind him, causing some (mostly Benitsubasa) to refer to him as "The Bear". Musou's known attacks are the Bear Fist and Bear Meteor and his Norito is "By the fists of my contract, shatter the perils of my Ashikabi!" After all the Ashikabi collapse on Kamikura Island, Musou is chosen from among Minako's Sekirei to represent them in the final fight on Kouten against Miyu in order to save all the Sekirei and their Ashikabi. After accomplishing this, he stays to becoming the new power of Kouten in order to restore all of the fallen Sekirei, but his "bear" side still emerges at moments of extreme jealousy whenever any of Minako's adult Sekirei get too close. He returns to Minako's side a year later.

Kiyoshi (Ari Ozawa (Japanese); Philece Sampler (English)): The youngest of Minako's Sekirei, and is also known as the "Green Boy" by other Sekirei due to him having the power to control plants, making them grow at an accelerated rate and to unnaturally large proportions, and typically using them to ensnare or disable his opponents without hurting them. At the beginning of the story, he was hiding in a pinetum after being traumatized by Mikogami's attempting to forcibly wing him. Kiyoshi communicated with Minako telepathically and led her through the garden until she found her. Kiyoshi refers to Minako as Onee-chan, and is the most attached to her. He does not like fighting or quarreling and he can be seen stopping them when they start. He is also very impressionable and often copies Musou, Tsukune and Kazeharu's mannerisms. He is extremely determined to have Minako become his wife when he grows up, and is highly possessive of her at times, even hissing at his fellow Sekirei when they start to get too close to her (and on occasion biting Minako herself when he thinks she is paying more attention to others of her Sekirei). His Norito is: "By the life of my contract, awaken the stars of my Ashikabi!" In Sekirei: 365 Days Without Him, Matsuri states that Kiyoshi grows and ages at a slower rate than other Sekirei and estimates that "his life span will be twice that of a human."

At the Final Match of Stage Three on board the ship Minaka, he becomes good friends with Sanada's Sekirei Kujikaru, Kuzaru and Shiji and now he is considered their best friend.

Kiyoshi's use of various plants is highly imaginative and extremely effective, but his MBI adjustments were never completed, which is why his powers rage out of control whenever he's sad or upset. He has a sibling-like relationship with #107 Shane, despite the fact that her power is the natural opposite of his. When Minako initially brought him to Izumo Inn, Miyu, believing that she had kidnapped him, drew and pointed a sword at Minako's face (a detail not used in the anime); however, Kiyoshi's growling stomach and later falling asleep at the dinner table brought out his fatherly instincts, and Miyu insists that Kiyoshi share his room to ensure (per his wicked sense of humor) that Minako doesn't do anything indecent with Kiyoshi; however, Kiyoshi often sneaks into Minako's room to share her futon with her and any of her other Sekirei who have done likewise. His name literally means "Quiet", and Miyu's nickname for Kiyoshi is "Little Foster Son". In the epilogue of Sekirei and in Sekirei - 365 Days Without Him, it is shown that he has taken on a large share of the household duties in tandem with Tsukune in Miyu's place.
