Sozoshi Kumoaka (雲赤騒々しい Kumoaka Sōzōshī) is a second-year student of Tsukuru High School's Class 83-C. He serves as the main protagonist and main narrator of the Anything and Everything series.
Appearance[]
Sozoshi is a lightly-muscled tall young man with unkempt curly brown hair and dark green eyes. When not wearing his school uniform which consists of light-gray pants, a white collared shirt with a red tie and black shoes, he dresses very casually in clothing such as neat dress shirts and corduroy pants and sneakers. He is usually shown with his hands in his pockets.
As stated by his best friend Karakuri Chissoku, he resembled that of a "protagonist from a harem anime". She notes that this is because he has "classic messy brown hair" and looks fairly "ordinary". But she also mentions that what sets him apart from a harem anime character are his ability to play the violin, his "blatantly horrifying intelligence", his affinity for sports and his more muscular and athletic build.
Personality[]
Sozoshi is characterized as being very relaxed and plain-looking, always sporting a somewhat dull or tired expression on his face.
He doesn't look like it, but he is a very hardworking individual studying for hours on end to achieve his high grades. He is highly perceptive and is very skilled at planning scenarios and strategies. He is also a very talented violinist, having played the instrument since he was eight-years-old.
He is also very responsible and seems to act almost as a father-figure to his friends, most notably Karakuri and Sensaiko when she eventually transfers. During the years Karakuri and Sozoshi knew each other, Sozoshi constantly had to call his friend to remind her not to be late and to not forget her backpack, which would happen fairly often. He also shifts some of this attitude towards Sensaiko when she transfers to Tsukuru High School. As she's adjusting to the new environment Sozoshi takes it upon himself to introduce her to Niigata and how their school education system works.
Sozoshi is a very kind and polite person, willing to offer his help to anyone who approaches him. He is especially considerate towards his friends, treating them as if they are all his responsibility. He hates seeing his friends upset in any way and usually does whatever he can to help them if they need help whether they ask for it or not. He is very persistent and stubborn, sometimes not knowing when to stop pressing further with a person.
When he starts receiving gifts in his locker, he is shown to be surprised and a bit uneasy, an emotion he doesn't usually show. He is also shown to be embarressed a few times, mostly when Sensaiko is mentioned in conversation or if he accidentally answers a question wrong or makes a mistake. When this happens he lowers his head and fiddles with whatever is closest to him. (shirt hem, collar, etc.) He also mumbles what seems to be incoherent nonsense under his breath as he does so.
Sozoshi also enjoys sports, being a part of both the school's swim team and volleyball team.
History[]
Sozoshi grew up in Niigata, Japan with his family, consisting of his mother and father. Ever since he was younger he hoped for a younger sibling so he could have someone else to hang out with while he was home. When he was eight-years-old, his mother announced that she would be having another baby, exciting Sozoshi to the point where he began learning how to play the violin so he could play for his new brother.
Unfortunately, the baby passed away during labor, devastating Sozoshi immensely. Even so, he continued playing the violin and vowed to be a good role model for his deceased little brother, saying, "Even from heaven, I hope you can see what a good brother I would've been to you."
He continued living with his parents and after the stillbirth of his brother, he led a mostly normal life. When he was about twelve, he became a waiter at a bakery in order to make more money for his family, which was struggling financially after the death of their second son.
In his first year of junior high school, he met Senshi Hokkyokuguma, who he considered to be his first real friend.
In the final year of junior high school, a bubbly transfer student, Karakuri Chissoku transferred to the school, immediately becoming friends with Sozoshi after noticing his similarities to a "harem anime protagonist".
Abilities[]
Keen Intellect: Sozoshi is among one of the smartest kids in his class, an effect of his hard work and constant studying. He is usually the student most of his classmates turn to to help with classwork. He is very observant and perceptive and can plan out strategies in his mind very easily, proving himself to be very resourceful, keen, and attentive.
Violin: Sozoshi played the violin ever since he was eight, continuing to enhance his skills due to the passing of his brother during labor. He plays with passions and emotion so it could hopefully reach his sibling in heaven.
Sports: Sozoshi is incredibly proficient in both swimming and volleyball. This also naturally makes him stronger and faster than some of the other students in his class, but not to the point where it's too noticeable.
