Z of the Revolution is an OVA that was written, directed, and created by Akira Jotaro who also created the anime VII -Invitation to Madness-, Musou Yami, and Book of the Warrior.

The story is set in the near future in Europe in a fictional country known as Eden, where the entire country is controlled by a secret organization ran by the chairman of Eden. The story is about a masked person who wishes to change the country of Eden and create a revolution by destroying Eden's secret organization, piece by piece, eliminating everyone who works for them.


"In this world, there are angels and devils. Humans, cannot exist without both. Angels give humans hope, devils give humans freedom. Humanity is corrupted; humanity is the cause of this world's pain, but only humans can save this world that they have corrupted" - Opening Narration

The country of Eden is a country which has been called a paradise or utopia, but what very few people know of Eden is that it is a corrupted country. The country of Eden has been given the nickname "The False Paradise" by the people who know of the country's true nature. Eden is a country where the public is given lies, false hopes, fake heroes, and hidden despair, executing the innocent as "a matter of security and safety" and giving highly dangerous criminals rewards by making the government's security soldiers look like heroes. This corrupted city is run by a man named Alan Defender, a charismatic but evil man who wishes for nothing but control over everything.

There is a masked man named Z who hides his true identity from the world, he is the true symbol of hope for Eden. Z is person who dreams of a revolution and believes that true change can only be done through destruction, therefore, he becomes the only true terrorist of Eden and destroyed many monuments and steals many great jewels. Z soon meets a woman by the name of Emily Demitris, a reporter for the British-American Anti-Eden Alliance, who helps him in return of a personal interview and report. As Z continues his path of destruction and Emily continues her reports, they are chased after by the EST (Eden Sentry Troops) but become closer to achieving a revolution.


Main Protagonists[]


A person who wishes for revolution and believes the only way to achieving it is through destruction. He specializes in disguising himself and is a master in acting. He mainly uses two chained blades as his weapon of choice. He is actually a woman named Zelia Reginleiv who fell in love with Emily near the end. He is voiced by Jun Fukuyama (masked) and Fumiko Orikasa (unmasked).

Emily Demitris[]

A reporter for the British-American Anti-Eden Alliance (AEA), a secret government group who knows about Eden's secrets and wants to bring them down without creating war. She is very energetic about journalism and is also an excellent liar. She is voiced by Maaya Sakamoto.

Alan Defender[]

The chairman of Eden. A charismatic man who cares very much about security, heroism, and justice, but only sees them in his own way and cares nothing for true heroism and justice. He is the leader of Eden's secret organization, Order. He is voiced by Shinpachi Tsuji.
