Zangetsu no Agito is an anime that was written, directed, and created by Akira Jotaro who also created the anime Mahou Gakuen Magica, Rusty Sky, and Strongest Under Heaven.
The story takes place in a country known as Tutamenas, a land that has been in a war with itself for over 50 years after the lord of the provinces all had mysteriously died and the king of the country had died of age. The story is about a young foreign traveller who travels across the countries because he was exiled from his village and had been travelling the world ever since.
Plot[]
For over 50 long years, the country of Tutamenas has been in a civil war because of the providence lords' mysterious deaths being blamed at other providences; and since there was no king, the country had broken out into a war. After the first 10 years of the war, the providences had joined each other and was split into five kingdoms; Gaiastia in the south, Wystenica in the west, Syria in the north, Kyoan in the east, and Romaniqo in the southern east. Romaniqo was the only providence in the country of Tutamenas that did not join with another providence, this reason was because of their treaty with the former king; to not have an army be used to fight in any battle unless it is to defend the land.
Agito Jestia is a man from the otherside of the world who was exiled from his home village; because of this, he is often mistaken to be a spy working for other countries. When Agito had gotten to the city of Seyland in Romaniqo, he was arrested of suspicion of being a spy because of his sword having an unknown crest. As Agito is put into trial, he was ordered to be executed by the judge because of his hatred towards non-Romaniqonians, but was saved by a woman named Rain Testament right before making his order final. After Agito was released, he had shown no gratitude for Rain, which made her angry and made her follow him until she is shown some gratitude; so as they travel around Tutamenas, Rain learns more about the war and wishes to stop it while Agito just continues his usual attitude but gains interest in the war.

Agito Jestia[]
- A traveller from the otherside of the world who had travelled to Tutamenas just to travel around it. He is a lazy, unmotivated, but very skilled warrior who has no honor or pride who just travels the world with no destination in sight. He is often seen looking sleepy and seen napping in random places whenever he disappears. He was exiled from his village in the otherside of the world when he was six years old and had accidentally killed the village elder when they were training. He is a master of iaido and has a eastern sword known as a katana with the crest of his master's family. He was given the nickname "Agito the Cutting Moon" (斬月のアギト Zangetsu no Agito) by the master chef and former Major of the Kyoan army, Lizu Youto, after he was shown his attack, the Kotohanaen (高騰花園 Soaring Flower Garden). He is voiced by Kenichi Suzumura.
Rain Testament[]
- An Romaniqonian woman who saved Agito's life from execution even though he didn't care if he died or not. She is a professional pursuader and a political genius who was turned down by the Romaniqonian government due to the fact that she was too dangerous to be in the political their circle. She uses a magical hammer that can change its size and weight whenever the chain holding it as a necklace is split as her weapon. She had began to travel with Agito just because of his ungratefulness and eventually fell in love with him in the middle of their travels. She is voiced by Maaya Sakamoto.

- The Prince of Wystenica and a prodigy in archery, fencing, polearm fighting, war tactics, politics, and academics. He was the person who caused the deaths of the providence lords and caused the war. He had began the war because he was irritated by the former king and the lords so that he could rule over Tutamenas as the most powerful ruler in the world. Even though he is seen as a villain, he is actually a kind man who had planned to be married to a woman named Anisetta after the war, which was impossible due to his death at the end; he was hung after the war had ended but had smiled a smile of happiness when he had died. He is voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama.
